FAQ

Who is Forfatternes Forvaltningsselskab?

We are a management company that looks after your rights as an author or academic. If you don't know about us, it may be because the possibility of receiving individual remuneration for participation as a writer or academic expert on TV is relatively new.

We manage the area on behalf of UBVA (Udvalget Til Beskyttelse Af Videnskabeligt Arbejde), which is a standing committee under Akademikerne/AC. You can read more about our guidelines for the distribution of remuneration here.

Why have I been contacted by Forfatternes Forvaltningsselskab?

We have either registered that you have taken part in a program on Danish TV and, based on that participation, are entitled to remuneration, or we have registered that your literary work has been read out in one or more of the Danish libraries. In both situations, we will contact you with purpose on paying remuneration.

Why do you need my data?

We pay remuneration for approximately 6,500 performances each year. In order for this to be done effectively, we will have to use fixed procedures, and therefore we cannot take single payments.

In addition, if you perform again in the future, we will be in the same situation again. But once your data is in our database, the payouts happen automatically, without requiring any action on your part.

Information sent to us via the form, to which you have received an individual link by email, is sent encrypted and is not shared with anyone other than Skat and our bank.

You can read more about our personal data policy here.

I'm having trouble with logging in

When you click on the link in the email you have received from us, you will be taken to our system. Here you must insert the email address you received the email at as the username. This is the one we use to identify you with.

Next, you must choose a password of your choice. Choose a password of at least eight characters, consisting of both uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers.

When you subsequently wish to view or update your information, you can do so by logging into our system in the right corner of this webpage or via this link https://vederlag.forfatterselskabet.dk/login with your username (email address) and the selected password.

If you experience problems, it often works to ask for a new password and follow the instructions in the email you receive for password renewal.

If you are still experiencing problems, please contact us.

Which TV channels are covered by the monitoring if I am an academic?

Participation in programs on DR1, DR2, TV2 and TV2 News gives the right to remuneration.

Our work is fundamentally based on sampling. This means that you, as a rights holder, cannot count on all cases where you participate as an academic expert to be included. But if our samples are deficient to a significant extent, for example that you are only registered for two participations but have actually participated in six broadcasts, then we are happy to look into it.

Appearing in magazine programs such as Go' Morgen/Aften Danmark and Aftenshowet as well as in TV2 Regionerne or other local and regional TV stations does not give the right to remuneration. The same applies to participation in radio programs.

Which TV channels are covered by the monitoring if I am an author?

Authors are subject to the same sample as academics, however authors are also entitled to remuneration for participating in radio programmes, regional television and magazine programmes. Next, authors also receive remuneration if their literary work is read out in one or more of the country's libraries. We also take care of this monitoring, and you can read more about it here.

Authors are welcome to submit self-reports via this form to rapportering@forfatterselskabet.dk

I have participated on TV as a writer or academic, but I have not been contacted

If, based on our guidelines, you are entitled to remuneration but have not been contacted by us, you can submit a list of your appearances via this form to rapportering@forfatterselskabet.dk. If we assess that you are entitled to remuneration for one or more of your appearances, you will receive an invitation to our system by e-mail.

Can you tell me which broadcasts I have participated in?

When you create a login and log in to our system, you can see which broadcasts you are registered for and for which you will receive remuneration. You just have to follow the instructions in the email you received from us.

I cannot edit the registrations

As a rights holder, you cannot edit in our system. This is because there is often a need for us to look through the registrations before they land in the system, as we have to ensure that the criteria for payment of remuneration are met.

What happens if my program is replayed?

Replays in the same year are not included, but replays in subsequent years are included, but only one replay per year.

I have been on TV a lot more than you have registered

Our media monitoring is based on samples. This means that not everything comes with it. Admittedly, we follow the channels DR1, DR2, TV2 and TV2 News closely, but if we are to establish 100% monitoring, our costs will be so high that there will be very little to pay out. We must have a balance between quality and cost level, where, as a result of board decisions, we must spend a maximum of 20% of the income on media monitoring and administration.

Having said that, we would very much like to hear if there is a significant difference between what we have found and what the individual academic expert or author her/himself has noted. If, for example, you are registered with us for two appearances, but you yourself have documentation for, for example, eight appearances, we would very much like to look at it. We continuously review our procedures to improve quality and adjust focus.

If you can see that we are missing a significant number of registrations for you, you can submit a list of the appearances we are missing via this form to rapportering@forfatterselskabet.dk

How much money will I get?

We do not know the exact amount that is settled per performance, but historically it has been DKK 580-750 per performance. When we do not know the amount now, it is because we receive one total amount annually, which must be distributed between all rights holders we have registered in the current year. This calculation is only made when the payment itself takes place.

When does the payout take place?

Remuneration for the current year is paid in September of the following year.

I don't want the money

If you do not wish to receive the remuneration, you must not take any further action. As long as the form is not completed, you will not receive the remuneration.

You will, however, receive a reminder every year, but you should simply ignore this if you still do not want remuneration. According to current legislation, we are obliged to try to get the remuneration paid for three years. This is why you will receive these reminders. At the same time, it gives you the opportunity to decide at intervals whether you still do not want to receive the remuneration. Please note here that remuneration claims expire after three years.

Do I need to do anything other than fill out the form?

No. As soon as the form you have received by mail is completed, you do not need to take any further action.

Do I have to pay tax on the compensation?

The remuneration is taxable, and the tax is not included in the remuneration, as the remuneration is paid as a B-honorar. You must therefore remember to declare your remuneration for tax yourself.

Is it safe to share my data?

We ask for the relevant information so that we can make the payment (bank details) and disclose the remuneration to Skat (CPR-number). This is the reason we ask for that information.

Information sent to us via the form is sent encrypted and is not shared with anyone other than Skat and our bank.

Our system and data management comply with applicable legislation and have a high level of security. Our system is developed and serviced by Peytz & Co., which is a prominent IT company that, among other things, provides services to large public institutions.

We do not use MitID. MitID actually works the other way around: It is our assurance that you are who you say you are. It is a module that can be placed on top of a website. MitID costs money every time it is used, and since we have confidence that those we send mail to are the right recipients, we have saved this cost away, so that it provides more money for payment to the individual rights holder.
